A Look at Artists: Mcbess

Mcbess

Mcbess is a French illustrator based in London known for his amazing "cartoon" style that harks back to classics such as Bettie Boop and Merrie Melodies. I noticed this chap's art from the album covers of the band "Dead Pirates"--a pretty great indie rock band worth checking out.  A little research has revealed that Mcbess is actually a member of the Dead Pirates, adding to his awesomeness.

His surrealist approach to work makes for a remarkable cartoony/M.C. Escher appearance. It is all very strange yet stays brilliant. Mcbess manages to retain a gorgeous life to his work, despite the monotone colours of his pen and ink, adding more to the merit that this skilled artist has made for himself.

As well as being a magnificent artist, Mcbess is also a director and has made an animated music video for the song wood by the Dead Pirates.
